This ranking covers 196 countries using World Bank World Development Indicators (indicator code NV.IND.MANF.CD) for the data year 2024. Of 196 countries with data, 193 (98.5%) have data from the last seven years, and 100% of datapoints are classified as official-quality. Seventeen extreme outliers were identified at the 3-standard-deviation threshold, and 82.7% of countries report data from the latest year.

The top of the ranking is dominated by large, industrialized economies. China (rank 1) recorded $4.66 trillion, a figure that exceeds the combined totals of ranks 2 through 6. The United States (rank 2) reported $2.50 trillion, followed by Japan (rank 3) at $867.1 billion and Germany (rank 4) at $843.7 billion. Korea (rank 5) and India (rank 6) are closely matched at $499.2 billion and $493.0 billion respectively. Mexico (rank 7, $367.6 billion), Italy (rank 8, $352.9 billion), France (rank 9, $302.3 billion), and the United Kingdom (rank 10, $294.3 billion) round out the top ten. These high rankings reflect large domestic economies with established industrial bases, as shown by the data.

Notable patterns emerge in the mid-range and lower portions of the ranking. Ireland (rank 18, $180.1 billion) places ahead of significantly larger economies such as Australia (rank 28, $94.5 billion) and Canada (rank 16, $187.2 billion), reflecting high-value manufacturing activity relative to its population size. Puerto Rico (rank 37, $55.6 billion) appears as a non-sovereign territory ahead of several independent nations. Liechtenstein (rank 109, $2.82 billion) ranks just above Nicaragua (rank 110, $2.66 billion) and above several larger countries by population. At the lower end, small island economies such as Palau (rank 195, $3,153,000) and Micronesia (rank 196, $2,386,700) record values in the low millions, underscoring the extreme range of this metric.

Data are sourced from the World Bank World Development Indicators, indicator code NV.IND.MANF.CD, for the data year 2024. The metric measures manufacturing value added in current US dollars across 196 countries. Per the source definition, manufacturing includes industries classified in ISIC (Rev. 3) major division C and is defined as the physical or chemical transformation of materials or components into new products; value added is the contribution to the economy by a producer or an industry or an institutional sector, which is estimated by the total value of output produced and deducting the total value of intermediate consumption. Coverage: 196 countries meet the reporting threshold (threshold: 80). Recency: 193 of 196 countries (98.5%) have data from the last seven years.
